“I do not distinguish between the making of a book and a painting”, Henri Matisse said about the monumental construction of the Florilège des Amours by Ronsard (the Anthology of love poems by Ronsard).
This large portfolio of images, 126 woodcuts illustrating the artist’s book was published in 1948 in a limited edition by Albert Skira and was intended to be read and admired like a work of art.
Matisse loved poetry, a great and necessary source of inspiration that lead him into an intimate and personal artistic dimension.

It's a long journey,
beginning with the places where it is cradled my soul and leads to new faces and unusual art.
It all started with a postcard,
unearthed in bookshoop a museum, many years ago. As in a journey…
